Basic Recipe for Homeschool Success

*1*
Main Dish: Formal Academics. For us these are math, grammar, history, english (and all that entails), memory work, science.

*2*
Green Food: In-formal Academics. Web-sites, magazines, DVD's, CD's, outside studies, Great Courses.

*3*
Side Dish: For us that will include Lego League (Science is fun!), ballroom dancing, camps (drama, Shakespeare, Challenge), co-op.

*4*
Carb: Literature. Reading and breathing. 2 essentials, right?! I love Sonlight, Memoria Press, Veritas Press, Bethlehem Books for reading lists. Poetry memorization fits in here, too. Flower and Cub will work through Horatius at the Bridge this year, and Feeche will participate in Poetry Outloud.

*5*
Dessert: Fun flicks, free reading, play-dates, park-days, field trips.

*6*
Plate: Vision: Where are you going? Mission: Where are you now? Goals: What are the small, incremental steps you will take to get you from where you are now to where you are going?

*7*
Kitchen:  Got God? It goes without saying, in my economy at least, that #6 above (and how you educate your kids at all) is based on your theology, and perhaps, prayer. I don't think of it so much as prayer, as much as Godly reflection and meditation.
