The Garden. It's straw bale this year because Flower got obsessed passionate about a book. Then, Dr.Dh stepped in and crafted a watering system. We're calling it our Mission to Mars look. It's pretty amazing. Stay tuned for a step-by-step post about the straw bale thing.

Beside the garden, Flower is obsessed passionate about sculpting. Here is part of her "heart" collection. Some are "gardens"- some are themes- like the water lilies at 12 o'clock and the dolphin at 6 o'clock. The picture does not capture just how lovely and detailed they are!

The kids got their scripts for Shakespeare Camp, happening in July this year. Commence memorizing! This year it's Much Ado About Nothing. 

Between now and then we have 2 practicums, 2 more conventions and the beach. A different one this year, but for those of us landlocked deep in the heart of the Territories, practically any beach will do. We heard about Airbnb from friends of ours who are hosts and as a result we are renting a house for way cheaper than hotel rooms. Haven't heard of it? Use my link HERE and we BOTH get travel credits! Feeche is "home" for the summer and working, taking classes, writing, spending time with a certain girlfriend and generally here to eat and sleep.Cub is busy with piano (Math is Motion -a recently released Classical Conversations music theory curriculum- really spoke to him!), karate, reading everything he can get his hands on, Geometry and spending hours and hours and hours outdoors. We super love summer!!

Oh, and have I mentioned Studio C? Good, clean fun!!

We missed CC Community day due to inclement weather but did it at home, just for fun. I told Flower we were going to be drawing Garfield for Art. She responds, "President or Cat?"

It Will Be Nice They Said

 

Not sure where this came from but it sums up the week! We've been so off-grid for the past couple of days that we finally took refuge in a motel. It was the second to last room at the 6th hotel/motel I called. Apparently, we aren't the only ones without heat or light. 5/8" of ice on trees and limbs are coming down everywhere, along with hot power lines.

More snow coming in tonight and we're not even sure if we'll be able to get back to the house tomorrow!

As Pooh says,  "It's just a mild spring zephyr."

He's Just a Poe Boy

 

For my WWS Students this week. We are doing lit analysis of poetry, starting with The Bells.

We had a great lesson in Creative Writing class yesterday identifying the man vs. man, man vs. self and man vs. environment conflicts in the opening of Star Wars. Wish I'd had this playing in the background!

Beware the Packaging!

Okay.
    Say you've been saving up to buy makeup, face scrub, and so on, to look good for your oldest daughter's wedding. You buy Neutrogena Mineral Sheers at Big Lots for $2.99.  Ooooh: good price, good brand, good color.
    Then, you can't figure out how to open it.  It looks as though you'd be able to open the brush at one end of the rectangular compact, open the powder at the other end, dip one into the other, voila.     
    Nope.
    The brush end opens nicely (assuming you can get the aeronautics-grade plastic wrapping off the compact).  But it's going to take a civil engineer to figure out how to get to the powder end.  The powder end does not open.  Do I just shake the whole thing, and the powder falls through to the brush and is applied to my face?
    If I keep poking at it, the compact is going to break and there will be powder everywhere---none of it, incidentally, on my face, which is where I bought the powder to be; and all of it wasted.
    Oh yeah, the internet---answer to all society's problems.  Google "how to open neutrogena mineral sheers".
    The first link is entitled "How do I get this $*% thing open?!?"
    I am not the only person having trouble with this.  I feel better already!
    I'd already decided to do what one of the reviewers suggests: break down the whole thing, put the powder in an empty container, toss the brush (which is a bit rough) and go on from there.  Case solved.
    Beware Neutrogena packaging.

KB found this book and showing me exclaimed, "You NEED this!" Then we'd actually know what you were talking about!"
After flipping through the pages for a minute she said, less enthusiastically, "Never mind. You'd just say, "you know, the THING on page..oh, .what page was it on??"

Finish what You've started!

My crazy, funny friend Mae, who just adopted her 6th child (a special needs beautiful baby girl from Haiti), forwarded this to me, knowing that finishing what "we've" started is putting us about a quarter inch from the edge right now. Hey, I'm in good company, what with Mae being there and all = )!!

Calmness in Our Lives

I am passing this on to you because it definitely works and we could all use a little more calmness in our lives. By following simple advice heard on the Oprah show, you too can find inner peace. Dr. Oz proclaimed, 'The way to achieve inner peace is to finish all the things you have started and have never finished.' So, I looked around my house to see all the things I started and hadn't finished, and before leaving the house this morning, I finished off a bottle of Jack Daniel’s, a bottle of Tequila, a package of Oreos, the remainder of my old Prozac prescription, the rest of the cheesecake, some Doritos, and a box of chocolates. You have no idea how flipping good I feel right now.

KB (who goes by "The Disturber" as well as Queen KB) had doll cleaning duty this week after another foray to the Pod People. Above is what I found in my bathroom later that day.

Shrink Speak

Dr. Viking Man, long time shrink, summed up the house situation yesterday by saying, "I feel like I've been in a 6 year long relationship with a borderline who finally offed herself." I asked if "she" (the house) intended to actually kill herself or just cause a lot of damage. His response, "With a borderline, it's always hard to tell."

Sad to say but we both howled. For a long time.
